    Over the past last few years authors have been investigated the spatial structure in the strong winds due to typhoons or winter gales. This paper presents the observation results about the profile of longitudinal scale of turbulence.
    The main results obtained were as follows:
    1) The simple power-law expression was able to be adopted to the profile of longitudinal scale of turbulence.
    2) The power-law exponent of the profile of longitudinal scale of turbulence was much greater than that of mean wind velocity.
    3) There was not sufficient evidence to suggest an obvious quantitative relation between the power-law exponent of the profile of longitudinal scale of turbulence and that of mean wind velocity.

    Cumulative distributions of monthly maximum wind speeds recorded at 143 sites in Japan in a period between 1964 and 1979 were examined. Results are presented in terms of the ratio between the monthly maximum value for mean recurrence periods (ten years and fifty years) and the annual maximum value for the corresponding period, based on Type I extreme value distribution. Contour maps of the ratio for twelve months were prepared for the practical use. Then an evaluation method for the design wind speed for a period of arbitrary number of months is proposed by a simple formula. Its consistency was also confirmed for typical sites.

    The full-scale measurement of the ground level wind was carried out at 39 locations in the New Shinjuku City Core in Tokyo, during a long-period from August 1975 to November 1983.
    The statistical characteristics of the wind in the built-up area, and the approximation of the probability with the Weibull distribution of wind velocity were mentioned in this paper. And also the relations of the direction and of the velocity between ground level wind and upper level wind were mentioned. The aerodynamic characteitistics of wind flow near ground were discussed. The method of estimation of the probability of exceedance of wind velocity at ground level with velocity ratio, gust factor and Weibull distribution of the upper level wind were also discussed.

    A principle and an apracticality of a doppler acoustic radar, which has been developed. for the purpose of the observation of the wind structure in the atmosphere, were explained with examples.
    In the results of many comparative observations, it was found that a doppler acoustic radar is of much practical use as a device to measure the profiles of wind speed, wind direction and atmospheric turbulance, and it was suggested that this new method was possible to be substituted with the conventional methods such as an anemometer on tower and pilot balloon.
