The larynges after the Hemilaryngectomy and Fronto-lateral Laryngectomy were investigated. The results are as follows:
1) The swelling of the non-operated side of the larynx and its displacements toward the operated side were ascertained by means of the tomography, laryngography and picture of the laryngocamera.
2) These phenomena of the operated side were more markedly observed at the false cord than at the vocal cord. The false cord mostly went to the other side across the midline.
3) The sagittal length of the glottis was shortened, more markedly during phonation than respiration. This fact was confirmed by the laryngocamera.
4) The vertical vibration of the swollen false cord was observed through the stroboscope.
5) Ultrasonoglottographically the horizontal vibration of the vocal cord during phonation was confirmed, as the normal vocal cord vibrated.
The swelling of the false cord might be due to the increase of the elastic fiber or hypertrophy of the descending part of the thyroarytenoidal muscle.
