Some observations were made on 18 cases of hemorrhagic conditions of vocal cords. These cases were classified into two types; angiodilatation type and hematoma type. In former type the surface of vocal cords is rather white and tortuous blood vessels with petechiae are visible on it clearly. This type usually occurs on both vocal cords.
In typical hematoma type, bleeding of the vocal cords are seen in full of the Reinke's space. The type occurs mostly on unilateral vocal cords. All 18 cases were women. 5 cases of them were under 40 years old and 13 cases were over 40 years old.
As the cause of bleeding, authors discussed the estrogen activity of these cases and moreover the relation between hematoma type of bleeding and production of vocal cord polyp.
