Suppose we have a preference polygon expressed by an inspector who has used the method of paired comparisons. The number of circular triads that the polygon contains is often used for data analysis. However, we found it useful to consider not only circular triads but also circular tetrads to data analysis. In this paper, we investigate the method of counting the number of circular tetrads.Subsequently, we obtain the probability distribution of the number of tetrads in the preference polygon when the inspector makes the judgment at random.
This paper proposes ENTROMIN and ENTROMAX criteria based on entropy for orthogonal factor rotation and their computational algorithms. One of the main advantages of themethods is that they can be used for assessing and comparing the parsimony of factor structuresby the measure of relative entropy. Illustrative analyses are presented to examine the availability of the proposed methods. Results of applications of the methods are compared with resultsobtained using principal factor solution followed by VARIMAX rotation.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the reliability of an essay test when the scores are reduced into several rating categories. The165essays by high school students were evaluated holistically and given the marks between0to100points. The marks were then classified into the2to5rating categories according to the two criteria: the percentiles and the standard deviation of each rater's original mark distribution. The reliability coefficients were calculated based on the values of information functions which were obtained through applying the graded response models. It was found that the reliability of the5-category scores(standard deviation criterion)was almost as high as the original100-point marks, which indicates validity of the categorical rating. The characteristics of some of the raters were also described using their information functions.
My purpose here is to present an introductory note on the social network analyss. First, it will be revealed that the social network analysis has its theoretical roots in the structural sociology. Second, several network properties, such as range, density, cohesion, structural equivalence, role equivalence and centrality, are introduced. Last, I claim that depsite its need for more clarification and sophistication, the social network analysis is definitely a developing paradigm to generate fruitful researches in the future.
