An attempt of computer-aided diagnosis in 277 different cardiovascular disease based on Boolean logic was described. Total 158 parameters from chest X-ray film, ECG, PCG and catheterization findings were used for the study. Experience with this approach indicates that the cardiovascular diseases can not be diagnosed with a similar accuracy as that of an experienced specialist in this field. However, the accuracy of the computer diagnosis can be improved with refinement of the logic, accumulation of clinical data, and adding some other laboratory findings. The usefulness of Boolean logic in this field was also discussed.

A serial renal biopsy was performed in a patient with acute renal failure caused by potassium bromate intoxication. A marked tubular necrosis along with near-normal glomeruli were observed on the fourth day of the onset. A montht here after, remarkable regeneration of the tubular epithelium was noted. However, a histologically demonstrable contracted kidney continued to patient to undergo continuous hemodialysis. In our case, it was felt to be difficult to estimate the prognosis of a renal failure by renal biopsies alone, particularly those at the early stages of the disease, indicating the prognostic importance of a serial renal biopsy in such circumstances.

A number of studies have already been reported on the arterial blood gas partial pressures and pH. Also at the department to which the author belongs to, Saheki has made a study of clinical pathophysiological study of the arterial blood gas partial pressures and pH in various diseases. And although these studies have been available on the venous blood gas partial pressures and pH of coronary vein or of cerebrel vein only, yet no comparetive study has been made of the venous blood gas partial pressures and pH of other organs at the same time. Hence, in an attempt to comparatively examine the specific properties of gas metabolism of organs, the author determined the venous blood gas partial pressure and pH of brain, myocardium, liver, and kidneys.
