Theory of point- and space-group determination by the convergent-beam electron diffraction (CBED) is reviewed. Various experimental techniques for the CBED are described. [J. Cryst. Soc. Jpn. 26, 309 (1984) ] .
DNA binding protein II binds non-specifically to double-stranded DNA in prokaryotes inducing the formation of bead-like structure similar to those formed by histories in eukaryotes. The 3Å structure of this protein has been determined and a DNA binding model through two symmetry-related flexible arms is proposed. The molecule has also a site similar to putative DNA binding site of gene regulatory proteins, whose implications are discussed. A mechanism by which the molecule induces condensed structure to DNA is proposed. [J. Cryst. Soc. Jpn. 26, 325 (1984) ] .
The thermochemical stability, crystallographic structures and physical properties of (LnAO3) nLnABO4 [n=0, 1, 2, …, Ln : Y, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu, In and Sc, A : Fe, Ga and Al, B : Mg, Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, Zn and Cd] compounds were reviewed. The phase diagrams of the R2O3-Fe2O3-Fe systems [R: Y and Yb], the In2O3-Ga2O3-CuO system and the In2O3-Fe2O3-CoO system at elevated temperatures were illustrated and the stability of the layered compounds was summarized. The crystal structures of YbFe2O4 and Yb2Fe3O7 were presented and the relations between the structures and the constituent divalent or trivalent cation were crystal-chemically discussed. The phase transformation in the stoichiometric YFe2O4 compound whichmay belong to that of Verwey type, was discussed based upon the data of electrical conductivity, Mössbauer spectra and specific heat measurement, [J.
