JOURNAL FREE ACCESSA 90-kG superconducuing magnet was constructed to test coil performances of Z (Nb-62.5 Ti-2.5 Zr) alloy and S (Nb-59 Ti-1 Si) alloy wires developed for high-field superconducting alloys. The magnet was composed of the outer pancake coil (block III) wound with HISUPER-10X strips for 10X (Nb-40 Zr-10 Ti) alloy wires to be embedded in high pure copper, the intermediate solenoid coil (block II) wound with HISUPER-16 ZMB for the 16 Z wires to bond metallurgically with high pure copper, and theinner solenoid coil (block I) wound with the Cu-clad S alloy wires. The central magnetic field was of 79kG for a combined block II and III coil, and of 92kG for a combined block I, II and III coil. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSWe have constructed and tested the saddle shaped superconducting magnet with the bore of 29cm dia. and the magnetic field strength of 24kG for the model MHD Generator and also the refrigerator to cool it down.
The construction and the preliminary tests were finished in 1968. We have already reported about them.
In the present paper, we describe the details of the experiments of the field energy removals, the S-N transition phenomena and the cooling down of the magnet.
We also made the experiments of the MHD power generation using the superconducting magnet and got the power out-put of a few tens of watts. We were able to get much knowledge about MHD power generator with superconducting magnet.
In conclusion, we experienced the various essential problems accompanying with the construction of larger scale saddle shaped superconducting magnet and have got the solutions for them.View full abstractDownload PDF (2108K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThe superconducting transition temperatures and lattice parameters are measured for the pseudo-binaries between V3Al with bcc structure and V3Si, V3Ga, V3Ge, V3Sn, V3Sb with β-W structure. By evaluation of the results, 4.84±0.02Å is obtained as the presumed lattice parameter of V3Al with β-W structure.
