Abstract : The aim of the present study was to evaluate the regeneration of periodontal tissue by intentional replantation procedure using CBCT. The patient, a 79-year-old man, mainly complained of swelling of the maxillary left second molar. CBCT images accurately showed severe destruction of periodontal tissue, elevation of the maxillary sinus bottom causing a periodontal cyst and no defects of alveolar bone in the mesio-palatal side of the maxillary left second molar. Under CBCT imaging diagnosis, intentional replantation to position the periodontal ligament surface that seemed to be healthy on the bone defect was achieved. The regeneration of bone and periodontal ligament was attained 5 months after replantation. The image diagnosis by CBCT proved to be effective for this intentional replantation procedure.
Abstract : To plan treatment guidelines and explain to patients the necessity of surgical endodontic treatment, we produced three-dimensional molding models (3D models) from CBCT imaging data using a 3D printer. These technologies were particularly useful for facilitating three-dimensional understanding of the diseased teeth and periradicular lesion with a complicated morphology, surgical treatment simulation, and obtaining informed consent from the patients.
