The recent move toward community forestry is the most important shift in forest policy in Cambodia. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the community forestry project implementation in northern Cambodia based on the project participants' point of view. Data and information were collected through a field survey using structured questionnaires to interview project participants. The project under consideration was started in 1998 in Stung village, Siem Reap province. The results of the study indicate that most project participants have substantial knowledge about the project and that there are high degrees of interest in the project as well as self-confidence in the current community-based forest management. However, some problems related to extension work and management of the current community forests remained. A set of recommendations for improving the present practice is made. In addition, this study provides up-to-date information and experiences of community forestry development in northern Cambodia.
