Metal inert gas (MIG) welding is a conventional one-side welding technique. Although this is an effective technique for manufacturing aluminum structures, for example pipes and cast components, the deterioration of work accuracy due to very large weld heat input is a problem.
We developed a welding technique with low weld heat input and small deformation using a hybrid technique that combines laser with MIG welding in order to produce an all-aluminum body. The resulting hybrid welding process described in this report found to improve body accuracy.
