Electro-Conjugate Fluid (ECF) is a dielectric and functional fluid, which produces jet-flow (ECF-jet) by applying high voltage between electrodes. It is ascertained that a strong ECF-jet is generated under a nonuniform electric field, for example around a needle-ring electrode pair consisting of a needle-type electrode and a ring-type electrode. This study proposes and realizes a novel microactuator with 2 degree of freedom motion using ECF-jet generated by the needle-ring electrode pair. In this paper, first, we propose a novel microactuator using ECF-jet (ECF micro finger). The ECF micro finger consists of a finger-tube with three chambers, made of three flexible tubes, and a jet generator with three needle-ring electrode pairs. When the ECF-jet is applied to the chambers, the pressurized chambers are expanded, the other chambers are shrunk and the finger is bent. Next, a large model of the proposed ECF micro finger is fabricated. Finally, he static characteristics of the large model are experimentally investigated

This paper deals with the sensing error characteristics due to dynamics of a cavity-mounted pressure sensor connected with a relatively long narrow sensing hole. The sensing system is modeled as a transmission pipeline terminated by the impedance containing not only the cavity capacitance but also compensating effects of the sensing “orifice”, that is, the nonlinear resistance and the end correction inertance, inserted before the capacitance. The model is named as a “conduit model”, including the frequency-dependent laminar friction of flow, which is compared with the system neglecting the orifice characteristics. The sensor output is computed for the system subjected to the input true signal in the time domain adopting the method of characteristics. The simulated outputs are in excellent agreement with the experimental data for sinusoidal and step inputs over wide practical ranges of the conduit size, the signal frequency and amplitude.
