    Nuclear power plants have begun to play so important a role in the domestic electric power supply in Japan that an important issue is being made of reliability as well as better availability of such plants.
    In most of the nuclear power plants operated with boiling water reactors (BWR), 25% turbine by-pass systems are being put into practice, which can feed a part of the steam generated in the reactors directly to the condensers.
    In 1100MW class nuclear power plants, however, there is an increasing demand for such a 100% turbine bypass system as can feed all of the steam generated in the reactors directly to the condensers without stopping the reaclors even when he load of the turbine generator is completely cut off due to network disturbances. Such system enables us to put the plant safely into operation thus to prepare for the recovery of the network.
    In this study, a full-load turbine by-pass system was developed. A test facility was also used to simulate a transient operation of large-diameter turbine by-pass valves under the influence of steam forces. Using this facility, the response of these turbine by-pass valves during the transient operation was tested. The experimental results obtained were compared with the theoretical ones and then the influence of each factor in the basis of the turbine by-pass valves on the dynamic characteristics thereof was elucidated.
