As culators, who wish to disseminate the latest information about earth science. Ourgroup is called PAC Geo (Project for Advanced and Comprehensive Geoscience). PAC Geohas expanded to EPACS (Expanded Project for Advanced and Comprehensive Science), whichhas a wider range of activities. Such activities encourage more people to use the museum andinformation on materials. EPACS has two approaches. One approach involves a new methodusing new tools. Computers connected to the Internet are examples of important new tools.A database entitled “Geology of Kanagawa”, a digital lecture entitled “Study on the Originsof the Ground”, and a digital exhibition entitled “Catalogue of the Earth” will be constructedon EPACS's Internet homepage. Our homepage will contribute to the establishment of newmethods. The other approach is to use new designs by that have a new perspective. A newperspective can be to learn from handicapped persons. For example, persons with impairedvision have a deep knowledge the senses of hearing, taste, touch, and smell, as they do nothave sight. A new perspective could lead EPACS to new designs for museum activities.EPACS will also develop a new system for disseminating knowledge of natural science.

The Hilgendorf Exhibition, which traveled to five museums in Japan closed in May, 1998with great success, welcoming a total of 33, 000 visitors, including the Empress and the Emperor. It was probably the first traveling exhibition of its kind at natural historymuseums in Japan organized by the Organizing Committee consisting of specialists about Hilgendorf and museum curators. The Organizing Committee overcame many difficultiesinvolving political, financial and systematic problems. I recommend the traveling exhibitionto all natural history museums in Japan.
