The Book of Sokan (1683~1690, Tenna3~Jokyo2) is a private record written by Takayoshi Mitsui preserved by the public interest incorporated foundation, Mitsui Bunko. The Book of Sokan contains the names of types of textiles as well as the relevant prices in the early Edo period.
The purpose of this report is to clarify how textiles were viewed among townspeople in the early Edo period. This report therefore analyzes all descriptions of clothes and textiles from Ihara Saikaku's work in the late 17th-century literary genre of amorous fiction and townspeople, and compares the descriptions with the names and prices in the Book of Sokan. As a result, it is considered that some textiles such as wool, satin, fine spun, silk crepe, velvet and so on were both imported and domestically produced. Wealthy people used them.

This research aims to study an alternative approach to practical family study using the theoretical framework of the “constructionist approach to family study.” I first conceptualized ways to overcome the practical barriers of family study in home economics. I found that teaching using knowledge that one has about the family is difficult. To deal with this issue, I explored the theoretical framework of the constructionist approach to family study. I then examined a case where I attempted to incorporate a family study in a home economics class in elementary school by focusing on the family discourse of children as an interpretive practice. To conclude, in my opinion, the theoretical framework of the constructionist approach to family study is an effective way of incorporating family study in home economics in elementary school.

We evaluated the antibacterial activities against Staphylococcus aureus of cotton fabrics dyed with water extracts from 16 species of wild grasses on the basis of “JIS L-1902 Test Method”. (1) After 18 h of cultivation, the viable counts of the cotton fabrics dyed was from 3.1 × 102 to 3.0 × 105 cells, and fewer than the viable counts (2.9 × 107 cells) of the standard cotton fabrics without dyeing. Above all, the cotton fabrics dyed with extracts from Vitis saccharifera, Oenothera biennis, Commelina communis, Reynoutria japonica and Eupatorium lindleyanum had high antibacterial activities. (2) Bacteriostatic activities and bactericidal activities of 16 kinds of cotton fabrics dyed were measured, and so bacteriostatic and bactericidal activities of all samples were more than 3.0, and 0.9, respectively. However, the correlation wasn't shown between these activities and minimum inhibitory concentration of extracts against the growth of S. aureus.

From August to September 2011, we conducted interviews and research with regard to the twenty-five Community Residential Committees in Changchun, China. The purpose of this article is to clarify the present condition of the elderly home-visit service provided by Community Residential Committees and, secondly, to consider how elderly home-visit services should take place in provincial cities.
In major cities, like Beijing and Shanghai, the service is provided by local government. On the other hand, in provincial cities like Changchun it is provided by Community Residential Committees, but we can see that the service available from Community Residential Committees depends on their budget. Of twenty-two services, eight were not provided by most Community Residential Committees. What is more, according to the result of classification of elderly home-visit service, indirect service has not been provided by some communities or organizations. In the future, service provision should be shared between Community Residential Committees and private entrepreneurs. This could help to narrow the gap between different regions.
