The colorimetric procedure with p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde and antimony trichloride for the determination of meprobamate described by Hoffman et al. was modified to determine 3-phenylpropanolcarbamate (PPCM) in urine. When 2 g of PPCM was orally administered to rabbits, only 1.4-2.4% of the dose was excreted unchanged into the urine, while a marked increase of urinary total glucuronic acid was observed. The results of separatory determination of free glucuronic acid and stable glucuronide revealed that about two-thirds of the increasing amounts of urinary total glucu-ronic acide were stable glucuronides. Furthermore, the paper chromatogram of the glucu-ronide extracts from such rabbit urine indicated one spot corresponding to a metabolite of PPCM. These results suggested that PPCM might be easily metabolized to its glucuronide in the animal bodies.

In the previous paper it was reported that sea water and treated cooling water were better than city water as the washing water of septic tank in summer. Then sea water was applied in winter to same septic tank and the result was compared with that in the case of city water. Sea water was proved to be better washing water than city water in winter, too, except in respect of the amount of ammoniac nitrogen.

The present investigation was undertaken to apply a theoretical method to the ventilation of polluted air in rooms where carbon dioxide in rooms was not completely diffused : theoretical equation is C^^-=(C₁+b/v)/R+{C₀-(C₁+b/v)/R} e^vt/M where M is the net capacity (L) of room, v is the ventilation volume (L/min.), t is time (min.), b is the volume (ml) of carbon dioxide produced per minute, R is the constant (R〓1), and C₁, C^^-, C, C₀ are carbon dioxide concentrations, that is, the outdoor concentration (ml/L), the mean indoor concentration (ml/L), the concentration (ml/L) near by the ventilating opening, the mean indoor concentration (ml/L) at t=0, respectively. In case of R=1, carbon dioxide diffuses homogeneously in rooms. Following equation is obtained from above equation : C^^-=(C₁+b/v)/R when C^^- is the mean concentration of carbon dioxide and t is infinity. The values of R calculated from above equation in "A"-room (net capacity 19.66m³) and "B"-room (net capacity 688.94 m³) are 0.43 and 0.51, respectively, and almost agree with experimental values. But some slight lag between these two values was observed and considered to be attributed to the assumption that R was constant. In fact, R is a function of concentration of carbon dioxide, time or ventilation volume, etc.. It will be noted that, in case of b=0, the rate of increase of R in the smaller room ("A") was greater than in the larger one ("B").

Variations of components took place in the hot spring at seaside of Obama (Nagasaki Pref.) over a long period of time were investigated. Owing to disordered boring of spring source and waste of spring water for ten years from 1946, the spring temperature was declined and the chemical components were concentrated threefold as compared with those of the 1930's by mixing with a large quantity of sea water. After decrease of spring sources to 28 from 84 in 1960, the concentration of chemical components and the temperature were recovered. The rate of sea water mixed in spring water is constantly 33% from 1962 to 1964, but not recovered to a level of 20% of the 1930's yet.

Recently, public bath houses which are provided with the circulating purifier are increasing in the Yokohama City. In this report, effects of the circulating purifier on the chemical pollution of bath water were investigated. Fifteen public bath houses in the city were selected, and the water was examined. The following results were obtained. The attached purifiers showed a remarkable effect on the turbidity and color of bath water. About the consumption of permanganate and the quantity of urea, the degree of pollution increased with the number of bathers, but the effect of the purifier was considerable.

Emission spectroanalysis of the evaporated residue of Iizakka-hot spring was carried out and the results were compared with those obtained by photometric microanalysis. As to the trace elements, Si, B and Cu, the results by the former method was in good agreement with the other.
