In the preceding report, the author stressed the importance of habitual palatine tonsillitis as the primary focus of focal infections, and the necessity of positive examination of focal infections, based on his statistical observations of 300 cases of tonsillectomy. The author furthered his studies in this problem by clinical experiments. In the experiment, allergen was prepared out of the tonsillar tissues removed from patients of habitual tonsillitis, and the Prausnitz-Kustner reaction test with this allergen was given to eight patients and healthy persons. The function of the vegetative nerve system was also examined, and the relationship between the constitutional predisposition and the focal infection was studied.
The results of experiment are as follows:
1) The response to the P. K. R. test was;
a) highly positive in the patients with focal infections,
b) not always positive in the patients with habitual palatine tonsillitis but without focal infection, and
c) mostly negative in the patients supposed to have nothing to do with focal infection.
2) The examination of the function of the vegetative nerve system indicated that most patients with focal infections were suffering from vagotoni.
Although the number of cases is rather limited, this report is made on the general results of the studies.
