Guinea pigs were exposed to the intermittent band noise centered at 4 kKz and 0.5 kHz at intensity of 100 phon for two years (eight hours daily).
    Cochlea was prepared in surface specimen. In order to determine the pattern of hair cell loss, cochleogram of the sensory cell population was constructed using light microscope. The results are as follows;
    (1) The site of lesions was observed at 10-14 mm distant from the basal end of the cochlea with exposure of 4 kHz for three months.
    (2) With 4 kHz exposure for 24 months, collapse of the hair cells occurred at 8.5-14 mm distant from the basal end of the cochlea.
    (3) The existence of maximal damage caused by 0.5 kHz exposure was observed at 12-16.5 mm from the basal end.
    (4) The cochlea exposed to 0.5 kHz showed patchy change in more extended area.
    (5) Hair cell damage caused by exposure to 4 kHz and 0.5 kHz extended towards the base of the cochlea.
    (6) Damage started from the first row of outer hair cells and at later stage it extened to the inner hair cells.
    (7) It was supposed that the intermittent sound was less injurious than the continuous one.

Enzyme cytochemistry, special histlogical staining and surface marker were investigated in 20 cases of untreated non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (17 Reticulum cell sarcomas and 3 lymphosarcamas).
Histiocytes exhibit a relatively strong and and thus enzyme cytochemical activity of nonspecific esterase. Non-specific esterase activities were hardly observed in tumor cells. The tumor cells were arisen originally from lymphocytes. Immunoglobulin was identified on the surface of neoplastic lymphocytes in 11 of 20 patients. IgG heavy chain was observed in 5 cases, IgA was in 2 cases. IgG and A was in one, and IgM and G was in one case. Two B cell species could be recognized by cell surface marker study. One had C3 receptor and the other had not.
E-rosette formation was oberved in neoplastic lymphocytes in 3 cases. In one case the lymphocytes were identified as B cells. The other two were identified as T cells.
However, neoplastic lymphocytes of 7 cases were termed as Null cells since they showed neither of T or B cell markers.
The Null cell type of neoplastic lymphocytes was thought to have two origins, one was arisen originally from the Null and the other was from T or B cells whose surface marker was lost.

By means of pellet tracking technique using an x-ray microbeam system, observations of articulatory movements were made on clinical cases of cerebellar degeneration. In some selected cases, electromyographic study was also performed. The data were specifically examined with reference to the range, velocity and consistency (reproducibility) of the movements of the articulators as well as to the pattern of coordination of the different articulators involved. It was found in the case of ataxic dysarthria of cerebellar origin, that the dynamic patterns were best repesented by difficulty in initiation of purposive movements and inconsistency of artieulatory movements, particularly in repetitive production of monosyllable. On electromyography, breakdown of the rhythmical patterns in the articulatory muscles was quite obvious in the repetition of monosyllables. It was suggested that analysis of dynamic aspects of the dysarthrias shoulc he a promising approach for elucidating the nature of central problems of speech productior and for differential diagnosis of various types of dysarthrias.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the changes of surface structure on soft tissue induced by COQ laser irradiation. The tongue of mongrel dogs was used as the test tissue and the laser beam was applied to the tissue at a right angle. The morphological changes were studied with a scanning electron microscope. The results were as follows.
    1) The immediate changes induced by a fixed irradiation of COs laser were characterized by u tissue defect like - crater.
    2) The changes on mucosal surface extending peripherally from the crater edge to the normal area could be graded into three degrees.
    3) The immediate effects induced by COs laser irradiation were the heat effects, which consisted of the two factors, that is, the phvsio-mechanical and the physio-chemical factor.
The former was represented in the area of the grade three change and the latter was observed in the area of grade two and one changes.

Seventy-one consecutive cases of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, which were treated in our clinic from 1962 through 1971, were studied to evaluate the results of our treatment and to search for the factors which seemed to influence the prognosis.
The cumulative 5-yr. survival rate was 37%, and the relative 5-yr. survival rate was 40%.
Females survived better than males. Patients under 50 yrs. of age had better survival rates than older patients.
Undifferentiated squamous cell carcinoma (transitional cell carcinoma including so-called lymphoepithelioma) had better survival rates than well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma.
The cases with neurologic findings, bony destruction and/or large metastatic lymph nodes had the poorest prognosis.
The patients with the primary lesion which disappeared by the doeses ranging from 3, 000 to 6, 000 rads had better survival rates than the patients of whose tumor disappeared by thesmaller or larger doses than above mentioned range.
Unless the patients were disturbed by recurrence in two years after the initial treatments, they had .. better prognosis.
