For studying the gas flow pattern in the glass tank furnace, small-scale model experiments have been carried out.Dilute solution of hydrochloric acid and caustic soda were used to represent the streams of air and producer gas, respectiv-ely.The conditions of the experiments were adjusted so that the Reynold and Froude numbers for the flow in the model assume comparable with those in the actual hot furnace system. The solution of caustic soda was coloured by phenolpht-halein in order to measure the length of model flame. The results obtained are as follows:
(1) The path of flame in combustion chamber is greatly influenced by the inc-lination of the ceiling of port measred at the opening.
(2) The concentration of alkali analysed at the several points on the opening revealed that the reaction has already completed by 70∼80 percent within the port.
(3) The width of flame is about 2.4 times as wide as the width of port opening.
