The author introduces papers on fast combustion and detonation among many of the papers presented at the Sixth International Symposium on Combustion held at Yale University in August, 1956. He classifies the paper into the following four groups, each of which is shortly explained: (1) Combustion of fuel by non-oxygenic oxydizing agent (2) Quenching, extinguishing and detonation proof (3) Chemical synthesis by means of combustion (4) Fast reaction and detonation The author presented two papers at the Symposium, In spite of long period of combu-stio researches, there have been many to be left unsettled due to its complexity.
He concludes that hereafter the scientist and technologist should make constant efforts to the combustion researches.
