In order to develop new process for purifying acetylene from the burner gas formed by partial oxidation of methane using methanol solvent as an absorbent, solubilities of acetylene and carbon-dioxide in methanol were determined at different temperatures and pressures,
Experimental results of individual solubility of respective gas showed that logarithm of their solubilities were directly proportional to 1/T (T: absolute temperature) and Henry's law gave good agreement with experimental values at various pressures.
We also found that mutual solulbility of acetylene and carbon-dioxide into methanol was ideutical with individual solubility of respective gas.Acetylene solubility in methanol-water system and solubilities of acetylene and carbon-dioxide in various solvents were further determined and absorption capacity for acetylene and selectivity for carbon-dioxide were investigated.
