The method of calculation of a mirror reflector with some desired light distribution is well known, for example, as given in magnum opus, the Theory and Design of Illuminatiog Engineering Equipment (1930) by L. B. W. Jolley, J. M. Waldram and G. H. Wilson. We often meet its very special case of giving uniform illumination distribution throughout some domain of a horizontal plane. And in most cases, we can assume the luminous distribution of the light source used be uniform. In such a case, the calculation may be simplified.
Now the author treated the design method, analytically, for the reflector of the type of the surface of revolution to be used with a filament lamp, as well as for the trough type reflector to be used with a fluorescent lamp. The design procedure was improved to be simpler to do with and more accurate than before.
