In order to create a pleasant visual environment, the first problem to be examined is how a man feels pleasant in the visual field.
This paper shows a evaluation method by which the structure of psychological pleasantness can be clarified.
A model assumed for the evaluation consists of three processes; the physical process, the sensory process and the evaluative process.
The evaluative response is described in terms of the sensation such as
y=Σ
Wix
i, where
y: an evaluative response,
Wi: weight coefficients,
xi: deviation from the optimum conditions of sensation.
The relation between the sensation and the physical parameters is explained by the comparative degree of contribution of the physical parameters to the sensation.
Using this evaluation method, the following questions can be clarified:
(1) How much each elemental sensation can contribute to the evaluative response.
(2) How much each physical parameter can contribute to the sensation.
