{100}, {110}, {111} and their intermediate planes in Al alloys containing Cu 0.2 to 1.0wt% Cu were unidirec tionally grown at
G/R 4.0×10
3°C•sec/cm
2 in the cellular and dendritic manners. The cell-dendrite transition in accordance with decrease in
G/R•Co proceeds preferentially on such interfaces having extended angles to {100} plane as {110}, {111} and their intermediate planes. The dendrite morphology depends on the geometric arrangement of<100>direction against the solidifying axis of the dendrite. Dendrites growing in<110>, <111>and their intermediate directions, in particular, have such specific morphologies that the dendrites are free from primarty axes.
