    Effects of preaging temperature and time, cold rolling ratio and final aging temperature on agehardening behaviors of Al-1%Mg2Si base alloys were investigated by electron microscopy and microvickers hardness measurement. When Al-1%Mg2Si alloys preaged at 200°C for different time are cold rolled by 30% and finally aged at 250°C, the increment of hardness during final aging decreases with an increase in preaging time. The increment of hardness by final aging decreases in accordance with a decrease in cold rolling reduction. When Al-1%Mg2Si alloys preaged at 200°C for 15mn are cold rolled by 30%and finally aged in the temperature range 150°C to 300°C, the increment of hardness by final aging is observed at temperatures up to 250°C, but unobserved by final aging at 300°C.

    Effects of heat treatment and stabilizing treatment on mechanical properties of cast Zn-4 to 27%Al-1%Cu- 0.05%Mg alloys were studied. An increase in Al from 4 to 12% improves the tensile strength of as-cast alloys. When the alloys containing Al 4 to 12% are heat treated at 365°C for 2 h and air, cooled, the tensile strength unchanges. When the cast alloys containing Al 22 to 27% are heat treated in the same manner, the tensile strength improves by 15 to 30%. When the heat treated alloys stabilized at 150° to 250°C for 10h, the tensile strength lowers by 30%. The heat treated alloys stabilized at 250°C for 10 h have impact values 6 times as high as those of the unstabilized alloys. If held at room temperature for 6 months, both the as-cast and heat treated alloys have nearly the same tensile strength and elongation. Stabilizing the as-cast and heat treated alloys at 100°C for 10 days lowers the tensile strength by about 25 to 30%, but raises the elongation to a range 10 to 12%.

    Effects of lubricating oils on the drawability of soft aluminum sheets and on the surface condition of drawn cups were studied using different punch-die clearances. The limiting drawing ratio increases with decreasing the clearance at low drawing speed, decreases at high drawing speed at the clearance +50 to 0%, and takes a maximum value at the clearance -10% by the use of lubricating oils. Lubricating with a mineral oil intensifies the surface damage on drawing and ironing faces of the products formed at low drawing speed, and lubricating with oils containing 10% oleic acid and oxidized oil moderates it. If drawn at high speed using a mineral oil, traces of oil-pits are observed on the ironing face of drawn cups and the surface damage is considerably moderated. Metal transfer by adhesion of the worked sheet to the die surface is significant by the use of a mineral oil at clear- ances 50 and 0% at low drawing speed, and is markedly decreased by the use of mineral oil and lubricating oils containing 5% chlorinated paraffin at high drawing speed

    Unhomogenized commercial purity Al-1%Mn alloys containing Si about 0.4% or more have an exceedingly coarse recrystallization structure when rapidly heated for a short annealing time. Prolonged annealing or slow heating to the annealing temperature leads to a fine grained structure, because a number of nuclei generate in such a coarse recrystallized structure depending on the annealing time even in such Al-Mn alloys. Si0.2% or more in the homogenized Al-1%Mn alloy remarkably intensifies the effect of heating rate on the grain size of the alloy, but such an effect of Si is moderated with Si0.4% or more. These effects of Si on the grain size are prevented to an appreciable degree by coexistence of Fe or Mg and Si. The addition of Mg about 0.2% to Al-1%Mn alloy is effective to refine recrystallized grains.

    7050 type Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys containing Zr 0 to 0.16% were heat treated in different ways. The hard- ness and electrical resistivity measurements and transmission electron microscopy were employed. The nose temperature of time-temperature-precipitation curves determined by resistivity measurements is about 350°C independently of Zr contents. However, the precipitation in Zr containing alloys is markedly enhanced. The quench-sensitivity of Zr containing alloys is proved to be governed by heterogeneous precipitation of η (or T) phase on Zr-rich compounds. These compounds are different from those having Ll2 structure and coherent with the matrix. The number of compounds acting as precipitation sites increases with the cold rolling reduction. The quench-sensitivity, therefore, depends on the cold rolling reduction.
