    This paper describes the results of ignition and combustion characteristics tests conducted on the residual oil produced by the commercial waste plastics oil reclamation system, from the viewpoint of studying its feasibility as a fuel oil for diesel engines. A fuel ignition analyzer (FIA) was used for the ignition test, and a medium-speed diesel engine with 200mm cylinder bore was used for the combustion test. The authors studied combustion performance at different blending ratios of new-reclaimed residual oil to marine diesel oil and at different fuel temperatures, to identify optimal conditions. It is found that the new-reclaimed residual oil (RRO) is distinctly better than MDO in FIA ignition characteristics. Additionally, the analysis results indicate the good correlation between FIA centane number and the centane index (JIS K2204) on blended test fuel oils of RRO.

    The lubricating oil is important material for a marine diesel engine. But it is inflammable liquid same as fuel oil, so it has prospect of being ignited and burning when it leaks and spatters on the high temperature surface of the heat insulator of the exhaust pipe and so on. This is the cause of ship's fire disasters. We examined the ignition characteristics of the gas oil, marine diesel oil and heavy fuel oil, and reported the ignition temperature of these inflammable liquids.
    In this study, we aim to confirm self ignition temperature of the lubricating oil at the atmospheric pressure. As a result, we found that the boundary temperature region of the lubricating oil, which is the area between ignition and non-ignition temperature line of it, is included within that of heavy fuel oil.

    The amount of nitrogen oxide (NOx) emitted from marine diesel engines is limited by the regulation 13 of Annex VI of MARPOL 73/78. It is provided in the regulation that NOx emissions of marine diesel engines are to be checked when manufactured or installed or remodeled. This regulation seems to have been enacted on the assumption that the emissions have the maximum at manufacturing or remodeling and decrease with ship's ages.
    To confirm this, authors have measured NOx emissions of an actual vessel for five years. And, the changing trend in NOx emissions with ship's ages was examined based on the measured data. In addition, the relation between NOx emissions and engine parameters was investigated in order to determine what factors have a significant effect on NOx emissions.

    機関から排出される粒子状物質は個々の粒子が合体して凝集体 (Aggregation) となったもの, さらにこの凝集体が鎖状につながった鎖状凝集体等になることをすでに報告した.本研究では, 小型・単気筒・直接噴射式ディーゼル機関 (9PSと17PS) において, 軽油およびA重油を用い, 排出される粒了状物質濃度を機関運転特性とともに明らかにした.その結果, 燃料の違いによるエンジンからの低濃度の粒子状物質の発生を確認した.一例として, 小型9PSエンジンでは75%負荷までは排出粒子状物質濃度が低いが, 100%負荷では著しく増加している.さらに, 燃料消費量に対して1/400から1/200の割合で排出されている.その一方, 17PSエンジンでは負荷が人きくなるにつれて排出される粒子状物質濃度は単調に減少している.これらの濃度値の差異は凝集体平均粒子径の影響よりも数密度に大きく依存していることを確認した.

    Fuel saving has been becoming more important year by year not only for the cost performance but also for global environmental problems such as CO2 pollution. Appropriate ship maintenance and operation management are one of effective measures for fuel saving. In order to do that, it is necessary to monitor properly the present situation of propulsion performance of ship during her service.
    The paper introduces a new analyzing method of AB-Log Data from a viewpoint focusing on the relationship between transportation energy performance and AB-Log data, and shows that the new method is useful for monitoring the propulsion performance of actual ship in service.
    The new method mentioned above indicates that some parameters are useful for AB-Log data analysis, and that, among them, the parameter Ps/W⋅Vs3 is most informative. So, paying attention to the change of these parameters, AB-Log data analysis of 6 vessels, 2 of bulk careers, 2 of container ships and 2 of crude-oil tankers are carried out. According to the method, the analysis results show that it is possible to monitor quantitatively propulsion performance and the influence of sea conditions.
