Amorphous magnetic materials present a new area of research and provide us with new material for devices. Rare-earth transition metal (RE-TM) amorphous thin film prepared by r.f. sputtering or thermal evaporation has a large extraordinary Hall coefficient. We report some characteristics and experimental results of the use of amorphous RE-TM magnetic film as Hall device. It is found that the extraordinary Hall effect plays a dominant role in the transverse Hall effect of Gd-Co film. It is also found that the hysteresis loop of the Hall effect corresponds to the M-H loop observed by the Kerr magneto-optic effect. A Gd-Co film can be used as practical Hall effect device considering its high sensitivity to magnetic field. Its application to the sensor presents here a Current sensor, a Tachometer and a Displacement sensor.

The lubrication of a conventional crosshead-pin bearing with axial oil-grooves in a two-stroke cycle diesel engine is quite severe condition, since the bearing is always subjected to the unidirectional load with small amplitude of oscillation.
This paper reports the theoretical analyses on the lubrication characteristics for the conventional and the offset bearing. The oil-film behaviour between the two bearings is compared. Moreover, the design criteria for each bearing are investigated.
Experimental tests are carried out to examine the influence of bearing type and bearing material on anti-seizure and anti-fatigue by using a dynamic load bearing apparatus.
From the theoretical and the experimental works it is found that the bearing performance of the offset bearing is superior to that of the conventional bearing and aluminum alloy is suitable material for this kind of bearing.

This paper describes a discussion on the higher harmonics and distortion factor of output waveforms of voltage and current which are supplied by the thyristor-type shaft driven ac generator system with the external commutated inverter.
The experimental system is established to observe distorted waveforms of voltages and currents under various load conditions. Steady-state waveforms obtained are analyzed by the use of FFT analyzer with frequency range of 0 to 40 kHz.
It is discussed on the effect of ac reactor which is mounted to suppress the line voltage harmonics caused by commutations of the inverter. The mechanism of appearance of non-sinusoidal waveforms of voltages and currents is also introduced.
