    It is very important to research the heat transfer of stirling engine for improvement of thermal efficiency. Therefore, the authors investigated the heat transfer coefficient between cylinder wall and working gas by measuring a heat flux at expansion cylinder wall. Then, the heat transfer coefficient of this stirling engine were calculated by dividing the generalized equation for determination of heat transfer coefficient between heating-expansion and cooling-compression stroke. It was found that the arrangements of experimental values roughly coincide with instantaneous and mean heat transfer coefficient. The above-mentioned equations for this stirling engine are as follows:

    Recently, ships are more and more automated, and the number of crew is reduced, called pioneer ship. In this trend, it is expected to introduce AI technology into ships, e.g. expert systems.
    This paper discusses another typical application of AI technology, natural language processing system on ships.
    Firstly, it is reported a voice recording on the training ship Fukae Maru, which has been performed in order to clarify characteristics of conversation data in this domain i.e. on ships. According to voice recoding data, it is understood that main part of conversation in normal condition is characterized as highly formalized order and answer. Therefore conversation data on ships are more suitable for computer processing than usual conversation data.
    Secondly, as an example of language processing of voice recording data by computer, it is reported vocabulary categorization algorithm on LISP machine, which applies morpeme analysis algorithm. In this algrorithm, it is comparatively easy to solve some problems of ambiguity of word classification because of formalized conversation input data.

    The optimum speed for fishing boats was derived by taking into account costs of the fishing boat and the labor productivity of the fishermen.
    The subject of this study is primarily high speed coastal fishing boats, and the following assumptions are made,
    1. the horse power of high speed fishing boats is proportionally double its speed.
    2. the fishing operations are one-day trips.
    3. the crew consists of only the owner of the fishing boat.
    4. the landing value and operating time in the fishing area are constant.
    Based on the above assumptions the most economical speed, that is the speed for minimum operating costs, the lower the speed, the more economical is the operating cost. However, as the speed of the boat decreases, the time at sea is prolonged and the fishermen are forced to long working hours. Therefore, the optimum speed for labor productivity is the present high speed of coastal fishing boat, or ever higher.

    Due to the short distance of voyage for some car ferries, the 4-cycle medium speed diesel engines are operated with frequent starting & stopping, low load operation in port & bay and relative low load in navigation.
    In general, the engine specification is selected by considering the performance in high load range. Therefore, the difference between settled engine specification and actual running condition seemed to cause the heavy wear problem.
    This paper shows the various countermeasures to this problem, remaching of tarbocharger with variable timing plunger for MPC system, proper selection of fuel injection nozzle by rounding-off of nozzle hole inlets, suitable adjustment of oil ring pressure for gas tight ring, etc.
    The wear results of components for combustion room were investigated during ab, 6 years and compared before & after improvement of engine. The much wear was recognized on the components before improvement, but the wear rates after improvement are keeping below 10μm /1000h and the stable condition of lube oil are also confirmed.

    This paper describes an approach for the dynamic stability analysis of marine power system. The system of model is composed of each one element such as diesel engine, AC. generator, three phase induction motor and bow thruster load. The analytical model is shown in the form of blockdiagram and estimated by digital computer using the CSMP language. Parameters of the generator system are derived from statical characteristics of the main generator engine system of the training ship“FUKAE MARU”. Transient chracteristics of the system are calculated in case of line starting star - delta starting rotor - resistance starting and chopping starting. These starting methods on the performance simulation model system has been studied. The amounts of transient speed regulation and restoration time by calculation are discussed. The responce of voltage regulation to variable compound coefficient on A. V. R. is also discussed.
