A new exciterless and brushless, synchronous motors and generators are presented for marine fields required reduction of setting spaces and easy maintenances. In the proposed synchronous machines the stator armature winding carry not only the load currents but also the AC or DC exciting currents for exciting the rotor fields. The magnetic cores of the synchronous machines are used both as ones for the synchronous machines themselves and for AC exciters. Thus, the AC exciters connected mechanically with the shafts of the conventional brushless synchronous machines can be cancelled, and the synchronous machines themselves can also be acted as the AC exciters. In this paper the principles and the constitution for the marine synchronous machines of the new types are explaned, and the test results are reported. It is confirmed from the experimental studies that the motors and generators can be yield good synchronous performance.
