The last investigation (The Issues of Japan Marine Diesel Engine Society of 1992, Vol.27 No.11) concerning the actual circumstances of wear of slow speed, long stroke 2 cycle marine diesel engines, showed that generally the wear on cylinder liners improved, on the contrary, excessive wear of piston ring resulted similarly on A type, B type, and D type.
This report describes the analysis results of wear condition as to the types discussed in the last investigation, based on the three years data (April 1989-March 1992)
1. Wear Rate Analysis of the Cylinder Liners
Liner wear circumstances of A, B and C type has stabilized since the previous investigation.
2. Wear Rate Analysis of Piston Rings
Generally speaking, the ring wear condition of the engine of each type (A, B and D) with small bore cylinders is stabilizing, however the engines with large bore cylinders continue to wear excessively.
