This paper describes the haiku column which appeared in 1887 on Eisai Shinshi that was the earliest magazine for the children in modern Japan. At first, we catch the outline of the magazine, and grasp the reason why the magazine was published. Next, we confirm that the contributors to the magazine spreaded out through the Japanese whole country except Hokkaido and Okinawa. We analyze the trait of its spreading and research the sign of modern culture appeared there because the contributors to the magazine attended as individuals. In the end, 3 haiku poets are estimated from the participant of the haiku column in 1887. The role of the magazine is examined by investigating the cultural part which three people played. We discuss the medium of the magazine provided the place to participate in the culture as an individual.

With cost reductions in dispatching information on the Internet, web sites have appeared which collect information from consumers evaluating various products (product evaluation sites). These sites, in addition to traditional forms of information spread through magazines and direct word of mouth communication are seen to influence the selective purchasing activity of consumers. In order to determine the relative effectiveness of these three information sources I carried out research on a particular site with two independent surveys of site users. The research demonstrated that product evaluation sites have gained relative effectiveness as a information source, which not only provides information on products as such (product recognition) but also importantly offers crucial information for making a final purchasing decision. I think that the evaluation sites are becoming increasingly effective because they simultaneously share all three types of information sources features: those of the 'mass' information source, the 'personal' information source and neutrality of information.

This paper examines public relations of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly and the information awareness of assemblymen. Since the 90s, the assembly has adapted to new media surroundings and has also introduced new Information & Communication Technologies (ICTs). According to the results of my research, while assemblymen subscribe to a few dailies and tend to watch the popular news programs, they feel there are some problems in them. They regarded the Internet as an important source of political information and consider new ICTs will affect political activities. However, the requests from electorates were the most influential factor to establish individual homepage, the time of their PC use is short and their E-mail dispatch is infrequent, which suggests their passive attitudes. Thus these findings provide that the possibility of the politics/policy through new media can deepen the relation with the political process and elections in urban politics as well as Tokyo.
