For further development of health counseling activities, this study is intended to identify problems encountered by Yogo Teachers related to support for children with diabetes.

We conducted a self-administered questionnaire survey of 405 Yogo Teachers in two prefectures. Of them, 342 responded to the questionnaire. Contents of the survey addressed basic knowledge of diabetes, need-to-know matters related to diabetes as a Yogo Teacher, and problems experienced by Yogo Teachers in supporting children with diabetes in their school life.

Results underscored the need for Yogo Teachers to make up for a lack of knowledge and foster awareness of being actively engaged in support activities for children with diabetes so that those children can experience a fulfilling school life. Moreover, results revealed that Yogo Teachers faced the following various problems: environments and management of insulin injections and supplements, anxiety about handling hypoglycemia, support for self-managing activities, dealing with children's psychosocial problems, building a system in school, cooperation, and responding to people around them.

Results also indicated the necessity of training and educational activities related to diabetes for Yogo Teachers to support children with diabetes in the future. This result can establish a vision of strategies for supporting children with diabetes in health counseling activities by Yogo Teachers.
