In Japan, there is concern about the increasing number of diabetics with cognitive decline as the population ages. Delayed identification of cognitive decline may result in suboptimal diabetes management and an elevated risk of disease progression. This study aimed to characterise the recuperation behaviours of older adults with diabetes and mild cognitive impairment who live at home (MCI). A total of 173 community-dwelling older adults with diabetes were assessed for mild cognitive impairment (MCI) using the DASC-8. Of these, 93 participants (18 in the MCI group and 75 in the non-MCI group) were included in the final analysis. The analysis showed that the MCI group had a significantly higher rate of decreased walking speed, increased snacking frequency, and required more help with foot care than the non-MCI group. There was also a trend towards poorer knowledge of the names and effects of oral medications. These findings provide information to help develop early intervention and support systems for people with MCI.
