On Oct. 23, 2010, the 3rd annual meeting of the Japan Academy of Human Care Science, was held at Aomori University of Health and Welfare, withabout 200 participants. This year's theme was "Let's think of relationships between Food and Human Care". In the keynote lecture, Hatsume Sato, the founder of Morino-Ischia, gave an inspirational lecture of activities that have been helping many people to recover from depression through insightful conversation and traditional Japanese natural ingredients. Furthermore, we invited four leaders active in their fields of food research, social welfare, local dietetic association, and dysphagia rehabilitation as symposium speakers.

In this review, I have proposed research strategies with results using local farm and marine products(squid ink, Sijimi and Gamazumi) to turn around the weak economy and the life expectancy in Aomori prefecture, which is the shortest in Japan.

This study aims to examine how nurses working for severely retarded children view the circumstances of mothers who are nursing their sick children at home and how such nurses become engaged in these circumstances. We conducted an interview survey with 19 nurses who had more than 10 years of clinical experience and work at specialized hospitals for handicapped children or at home-visit nursing stations. Thereafter, we performed aq ualitative and inductive analysis of survey results.

Based on the nurses' observations, results show that mothers "try not to voice their toilsomeness" even though they have some issues because they are "living a stressful life," "holding their feelings back," or "taking all burdens and responsibilities on themselves." Additionally, depending on the situation, results show that nurses are trying to assist the mothers by "adjusting their time," "daring not to get involved in their lives," or "creating a slightly deeper relationship with them." The paper also discusses the meaning of such nurse involvement.

The purpose of this study was to develop a proposed critical pathway (CP) for diabetic care in home care nursing for the elderly and examine the possibilies for its use. . The following 3-Step were contained in the methodology; [Step 1: Survey of home care nursing records and interview survey of visiting nurs , e]s [Step2: Development of a proposed CP and method of reaching ac onsensus with experts], [Step 3: Trial application of the developed proposed CP]. 42 visiting nurses participated and used the proposed CP as a trial and their evaluations of the 12 endpoints are presented. As a result these 4 endpoints accounted for 60 ~ 70% of the total responses, " effect on the prevention of acute diabetic complications", " implementation of diabetic care needed", " use for the evaluation of diabetic care" and "thorough assessment of diabetic care";. The endpoints with lowest rates of responses were"reduction in time for keeping nursing records" (11.9%) followed by "applicability of a care protocol (including the CP) in the station" (28.6%) and "promotion of collaboration with professionals from other fields" (33.3%).Based on the above results, the usefulness of the developed CP for diabetic care was evaluated highly. The above results suggest that the CP developed in the present study can be applied if the process of diabetic care in home care nursing for the elderly and its endpoints of the CP are refined, and also if the roles of medical institutions and home care nursing are clarified.

[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to reveal the effects of manual lympho drainage(MLD) for Lymphoedema patients, a nd to make an analysis of the features of MLD through demographic data.

[Methods] Nineteen women with Lymphoedema (Upper extremity:11、Lowextremity: 8、meanage of 57.3 years±8.2 years) were cared for with MLD for about 50 minutes. A group underwent twice on different days the putting of a garment after MLD, B group was without one after MLD. They were measured from a rest position 2 hours after MLD by bio-impedance(Imp).

[Findings] The effects of MLD in the limbs of A group was significantly drained for 1 and 2 hours after MLD. (p<0.05) It showed the continued drainage by MLD for 2 hours.

The other B group, only left upper extremity was significantly drained.

Within the features of MLD by demographic data(age, classification, lebel of ADL, BMI, urination etc,.), it didn't show significantly to them.

It suggested that there is a need to do self-drainage, in the B group, as there wasno change Imp after MLD, and the garment constantly accelerated to drain for Lymphoedema.
