  • 若手教師と熟練教師の教師知識に関する比較研究

    In this study, the author examined elementary school teachers’ Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) in home economics lessons by comparing the knowledge base of novice teachers and that of experienced teachers. PCK is one among the knowledge bases for teaching as proposed by L. Shulman. First, the author defined PCK and teachers knowledge base by analyzing essential literature to conduct empirical research based on L. Shuman’s proposition. Second, the author examined PCK in home economics of four novice elementary teachers and three experienced elementary teachers by organizing semi-constructed interviews. From the results of the theoretical and empirical research, the author identified that PCK is a complex knowledge based on teacher knowledge, and that experienced elementary teachers’ PCK may differ considerably both in quality and quantity from that of novice elementary teachers. Therefore, experienced teachers can effectively teach in diverse contexts. The author believes that the conceptualization of PCK can be a powerful tool for understanding home economics teaching in elementary schools and be a useful point of view for reestablishing in-service teacher programs as well as pre-service teacher programs.

    This study is to investigate the use of video materials installed on Tablet PCs, explaining basic sewing techniques and how to sew a small bag. The subjects for the study are 135 university students in two classes at a teacher training faculty. The results are as follows; (1) Questionnaire survey shows that about half of the students had not sewn using fabrics after graduating junior high, and had little opportunity in using needle and thread in daily life. Educational opportunity to improve their skills is needed. (2) Skill level of basic hem stitch was evaluated from three points of view: number of stitches, quality of front side seam, and quality of backside seam. (3) Comparing the skill of hem stitch between classes with and without video materials on Tablet PCs, the percentage of those with higher skills were found in the class that made use of the Tablet PCs. It can be concluded that a repeated use of video materials promoted understanding and improving sewing skills. (4)In sewing of the small bag, students often made use of the video materials in confirming the parts that were unclear. An effect to promote self-solution is expected in a video.

    There is no systematic investigation in the literatures on home economics teachers although considerable attention has been devoted in recent years to teachers’ curriculum design competencies. The purpose of this article is to overview the survey researches on home economics teachers in the Journal of Japan Association of Home Economics using Garrard’s Matrix Method for reviewing literature. The results are as follows: (1) The number of articles in the journal, published from 1960 to 2014, is 1233, including 99 survey articles on home economics teachers, which are accounted for 8.0% of the total articles in the journal. (2) The papers are categorized into 13 groups by their research purposes and contents. (3) The research history is divided into three terms and the findings from the articles of each term are summarized. Based on these results, the authors discuss and explore some desirable directions for research on home economics teachers in the future.
