The prerequisite for big data business to provide personalised services is to develop and utilise information systems which automatically process, use and share various types of personal data collected with electronic sensors and ubiquitous devices in a real time fashion and stored in large-scale data storages. The development and use of such information systems usually entail social concern about privacy invasion. However, who invades privacy in the big data environment where any individual and organisation don’t explicitly engage in processes of personal data handling? Do information systems, program codes or algorithms invade people’s privacy? This study attempts to reconsider the concept of privacy and ways of privacy protection suitable for the age of big data.

We analyze messages in a tweet system of a software development company. The tweet system has been used for many years as an informal communication tool among the people of company at the main office, the local office, and the office in customers. We think that we can search for the latent attitudes that doesn’t appear in the figure of overtime hours by analysis of the relations among the topics, the overtime hours, and the mentioned “Today’s will”. We analyze the terms that appear in messages of tweet system by morphological analysis, and extract the topics by principal component analysis. By two-way analyses of variance to these factors, we captured features with respect to the latent attitudes to the overtime work in three topics. One feature is the working hard positively, and the other feature is the working unpleasantly in want of rest.

Most Japanese hospitals have been confronting against the country’s rapid aging and the decrease of expenses by medical insurance. In order to keep up with the proper profit of the hospitals, every hospital has to reduce its administrative cost and to improve operational efficiency. One of the large hospitals with nearly 1,000 patient beds is also aiming at such an improvement using IT system. Although it has a large medical record system for treatment for patients, the system only focused to direct treatments by medical doctors and it does not necessarily include the surrounding administrative operations and information. Hospitalization process had been executed by only human efforts with paper sheets for bed/patient schedule and for and request for entering hospital, requiring several different staff’s arrangement and adjustment. The introduced solution is to computerize the information used for this process by linking the new system with the medical record system. As a result every person related the process has become able to assign patients to the available beds in a faster way and correctly.

Electronic Commerce (EC) is grown as an important purchase channel. Each EC company make some strategies to obtain and maintain his customer. Individual recommendation is one of the representative strategies. In this paper, we propose a quantitative model to discover signs of purchase, and consider the effectiveness of our model through a real-data analyzing. As our example, we analyze the browsing behavior of a golf goods EC site using the web access log and purchase record data. First, to divide into some homogeneous groups of customers, we utilize some characteristic variables to explain the customers’ behavior, then we do cluster analysis. Next we evaluate the purchase behavior for each group using logistic regression analysis.

Against the received belief that IT investment enhances organisational capability, the previous study by the author demonstrated that in fact the IS experts (researchers, consultants and ex-CIOs) collectively evaluated the impact of IT investment to be very limited, through a questionnaire-based qualitative study. The current article bases the organisational IQ measurements as a yardstick of organisational capability, and analyses the relationship between the IT investment and organisational IQ quantitatively, drawing on METI data. Except for EIA and possibly IKD, there are no positive correlations between the level of IT spending and organisational IQ principles, while EDA is negatively correlated with IT spending. Generally, however, the impact of IT spending on organisational IQ is limited. That the overall tendency is consistent with the qualitative evaluations by experts which was independent of this study, supports the validity of the qualitative evaluation of this study.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the factors that influence the organizational contribution of local officials using information system. I analyze the effects of information technology and organizational commitment that represents a loyalty to the organization of local government officials on the contribution. Itakura (2002) showed that lower affective commitment would lower the organization contribution of information. I test whether such phenomenon is involved in the civil service organization. I show that these hypotheses are supported to some extent.
