    A new glacier inventory and glacier maps are produced in Hunza river basin, a part of northwestern Karakoram Mountains, Pakistan. There is a deep glacierized region, however, studies about glacier system and recent glacier fluctuations are poor. In this study, the glacier inventory and maps are produced utilizing satellite imageries acquired by ALOS AVNIR-2 and Terra ASTER at 2009 or 2010, and DEMs of ASTER GDEM. In the glacier inventory, it adds five items such as the debris covered area, the highest altitude in a catchment of glacier (HCmax), the highest altitude (HGmax) and the lowest altitude (HGmin) in a glacier, and both glacier types of clean type (C-type) and debris covered type (D-type) glaciers to existing items (Mool et al., 2005).

    As a result, 1,322 glaciers are identified in the basin. Number of glaciers is more than 400 glaciers of an old glacier inventory in 2005. The glaciers are categorized by C-type glacier of 994 (75 %) and D-type glacier of 328 (25 %) in the basin. C-type glaciers characterize by a short length (L=0.3-32.7 km), -7,850 m), a small area (A=0.1-131.6 km2), a low HGmax(4,730-7,850 m), a low HGmax(4,220-7,850 m) and a high HGmin(2,560-5,620 m), while D-type glaciers have a long L (0.6-58.6 km), a large A (0.1-489.3 km2), a high HCmax(4,780-7,850 m), a high HGmax(4,540-7,850 m) and a low HGmin(2,260-5,040 m). The type of glacier suggests that it is derived from the difference of a size of glacier than development altitude. Although most of C-type glaciers tend to situate in upper Hunza river basin, most of D-type glaciers locate in lower one. It shows that the distribution of glaciers in the basin is influenced by the distribution of mountain ridge altitude (HCmax) which is derived from a tectonic zone. The glacier maps in this study are made by high resolution satellite imageries and provided as GIS format. Therefore, the glacier inventory and maps can be used for the study of glacier monitoring.
