The purpose of this study was to clarify the effectiveness of intervention on diet and health education (Syoku-Iku) to nursery school students and their guardians. One hundred and eighty-six nursery school students (aged 4-5 y) attended this study. Fifteen questionnaires that made of four themes were carried out for children and questions about children's lifestyle were carried out for their guardians and teachers to evaluate intervention of Syoku-Iku. The numbers of valid responses were 135. The children's knowledge increased significantly. Moreover, it's found out that the education made children not only raised their knowledge about diet and health, but also changed their behavior for lifestyle. In addition, it was replied by guardians that “their children talked about intervention to their family” for 76% of those, “there are some changes of guardian's lifestyle” 20% of those and “there are some changes of guardian's dietary habits” 22% of those. These results demonstrated that the direct intervention of Syoku-Iku for children made not only children's knowledge rise and change their behavior for lifestyle, but also their guardian's behavior for lifestyle better.

Appropriate dietary habits management is important so that the athletes may demonstrate the training effect. It is expected that the sports coaches who have the appropriate eating knowledge, eating attitude, and eating behavior should exert a desirable influence not only on their own health but also on that of the athletes, because it has been well known that the person's eating behavior is influenced by supporting surroundings. In this research, the eating knowledge, eating attitude, and eating behavior of dance sports coaches (127 males and 96 females) were assessed with the questionnaire. As a result, there was a significant difference between the male and female coaches in their eating knowledge, eating attitude, and eating behavior, and those of the male coaches should be clearly improved. As for healthy dietary habits analyzed according to the stage of change model, half of the male coaches were on the preparation stage. Among the male coaches on the action and the maintenance stages, the eating knowledge, eating attitude, and eating behavior were significantly more excellent than those on the preparation stage. However, such difference of the eating knowledge, eating attitude, and eating behavior between the progression stages of healthy dietary habits was not observed among the female. It is necessary to do nutrition education not only to the athletes but also to the coaches who promote their knowledge, attitude and behavior, especially to the male coaches.
