Objective To assess the growth conditions, based on their height and weight. of students attending schools for physically handicapped in Tokyo. Results It was concluded that physically handicapped children were; 1) Both shorter and lighter compared to normal children. 2) Both height and weight increased relative to their ages. 3) Pattern of increase was gradual. 4) In both the height and weight, physical retarda tion was delayed as students get older. 5) There were more individual differences found than in normal children. 6) Growth of their height and weight was consistent with growth spurts and respective ages for boys, but a delay in weight gain compared to the height increase in girls was evident. 7) In comparison to the growth chart of normal children, there were more deviations in height-for-age, and less deviations in weight-for-age.

A detailed semi-structural interview survey was performed for 29 patients who recovered well from alcoholism to typical their basis of self-affirmation, aspects of recovery, and lifestyle without considering the type of self-help groups they attended. The results showed that recovery was based on self-affirmation. The recovery could be classified into 5 types, including (1) wining social success, (2) actively participating in self-help groups, (3) being supported by self-help groups, (4) maintaining both work and family, and (5) having lifestyle isolated from social restrictions, with key words of recovery being found for each type. Although the value system of the self-help group to which each patient belong may have influenced the selection of lifestyle, other factors, such as age and sex, may also have influenced it. It is estimated that the society and times when abstinence was started may have given substantial influence on the recovery of the patients.

Their QOL is influenced by their mental health (the 1st factor) and their mental health is influenced by an individual factor of their level of ADL function as well as an environmental factor recognizing stresses in the living environment (the 2nd factor). From this sequential model, this research examined the validity of the collected data. The research subjects were in 9 facilities, which accepted this research out of 37 geriatric care facilities existing in Gumma prefecture. There were 147 seniors considered by the facility personnel not to have dementia, based on the "dementia-screening standard" from the Ministry of Health and Welfare research group. The research analysis was calculated with the score of the QOL from the basic ADL score by the Barthel Index, the mental health analysis from the "depression score" by the "Japanese version of CES-D", the QOL scores from "LSI-A" and "condensed form of PGC moral measurement". From the results of analysis made by the dis persion structural analysis method, the above-mentioned cause and effect applies to the findings. In regards to the living environment stress recognition, it became obvious that the "facility environment stress" factor influences the degree of mental health. From the above results, these findings are considered to be very important perspectives for geriatric facilities in the future to be pleasant "Places for Living".

Mastoparan (INLKAIAALAKKIL-NH_2) has a wide variety of cellular effects. To understand the action mechanism of MP, various derivatives with substitutions at the three Lys residues at the 4th, 11th and 12th positions, the Leu residue and the amide structure at the 14th position were synthesized and evaluated in terms of their structure-activity relation ship. The present study showed that Leu^<14>-NH_2 was essential and three Lys residues in MP affected both the hemolytic activity toward bovine erythrocytes and the catecholamine releas ing activity toward bovine adrenal chromaffin cells. The chemical structure of Lys residue rather than the basicity of side chain might be relevant in both activities. The newly designed analog, [Orn^<4,11,12>]-MP had a very weak hemolytic activity towards bovine erythrocytes, but showed a strong catecholamine releasing activity. It is potent and significant, and anticipated to become a more useful tool in the future due to the effective separation between the lytic and catecholamine releasing activities.

There are many exposure dose in the X-ray pelvimetry comparatively, and it is important to reduce exposure dose considering influences on the fetus. So, we studied to reduce exposure dose in pelvimetry Gutumann method using phantom. As a result, it enabled us to reduce the exposure dose by 51-72 % using inverter type X-ray generator in comparison with single phase X-ray generator. And in inverter type X-ray generator it enable us to reduce the dose by 70 % using 110 kV compared with 90 kV and 25 % using Computed Radiography [CR] compared with film. We consider being able to reduce the exposure dose using the inverter type X-ray generator, CR system and appropriate tube volt age clinically as well.
