In 1952, KAMOHARA described a new species of Syngnathidae, Yozia punctata, collected from the fish-market at Mimase in Kochi Prefecture. But this species was included in Trachyrhmphus by MATSUBARA (1955) from its morphological characters. Since then, the occurrence of this species off Nezumigasaki in Yamagata Prefecture and off Okinoshima in Kochi Prefecture were reported by HONMA (1959) and KAMOHARA (1960), respectively.
The author wishes to report here the occurrence of this species and its morphological characters, because this species is very rare but he collected fortunately a male specimen from Kusatsu Fish-market, Hiroshima Prefecture.
The present specimen has the following morphological characters:
    1) D. 18; A. 3; P. 14; C. 8; body-rings 14+35. Head 2 in trunk, head and trunk 1.7 in tail without caudal. Eye 4.1 in snout, 7.3 in head. Depth 4.6 in head, 36 in total length.
    2) This specimen has a brood-pouch with serrated ventral keel at the body rings 1-44.
    3) This specimen has clear blue eye-like spots around the trunk and on the sides of the tail.
    4) Thus, the morphological characters of the present specimen showed somewhat close resemblance to those of the already reported ones. But the most remarkable difference of the present specimen from the already reported ones is the presence of the dots of the head, trunk and tail.

1)The normal embryonic development of a fresh water cyprinodont teleost, the medaka, Oryzias latipes is observed under the controlled environment of 25°C and pH7 and is shown by photomicrographs from life. Sometimes the chorion is removed with the help of the hatching enzyme and trypsin.
    2) The identification of developmental stages is made after MATSUI's description which was published in Japanese (1949), with some modifications by the present authors.
    3) The description of external features is as follows:

Artificial interspecific hybrids, Gnathopogon elongatus elongatus_??_×Gnathopogon japonicus_??_and the reverse cross, can be reared until they reach the adult stage with a survival rate similar to that of controls. Their external characters ars typically intermediate between parental species. Of nine hybrids reared to adulthood, two are sterile males and another seven are females, three of them having a few unripe ovarian eggs.

Thanks to the cooperation of Mr. Yasoji ENDÔ, a specimen of a rare deep-sea fish resembling Rondeletia bicolor GOODE & BEAN of the family Rondeletiidae has been received for study. The specimen was caught early in October, 1962, 30 miles off Kesen-numa, Miyagi Prefecture, by the “Tomoe-maru” (two-boat-type trawler), at a depth of 750m., and was preserved in formalin till February 7, 1963, when the red color of the buccal cavity and some other parts of the body still remained reminding the senior author of the colored plate given by BEEBE and of the reproduced plate published by HARRY of the “giant-mouthed orange skin”, Rondeletia bicolor. But close examination of the specimen has revealed that it represents a different species which is believed to be new to science. The authors take pleasure in expressing here their cordial thanks to Mr. ENDÔ for his cooperation.

On November 11, 1959, a fine specimen of Barbourisia rufa PARR was collected by Mr. Kanamaru ICHIKAWA, Hachinoe Fisheries Senior High School, at the wholesale fish market of Hachinoe City, Aomori Prefecture. The fish was caught by trawl off the Kurile Islands, at a depth of less than 450m., and when received from the collecter by the junior author, who lived in the same city at that time, it was entirely red excepting for the pupils which were black. The writers wish to express their sincere thanks to Mr. ICHIKAWA for his kindness in presenting them the most valua ble specimen for study.

On December 2, 1962, while fishing with hook and line with his father, Mr. Teruo YAMAMICHI found a singular red small fish in the mouth of a rockfish, Sebastes oblongus GÜNTHER, and sent the unusual fish to the present writer for study through courtesy of his teacher at Kadonohama Junior High School by the name of Mr. Magojirô SOTOKAWA and Mr. SATô, Hachinoe Branch Station, Tôhoku Fisheries Research Laboratory. The rockfish was taken 4km. off Kadonohama, Taneichi Machi, Iwate Prefecture, at a depth of 40m. The specimen received has been dried up, and is not in a good state, but certainly represents a species of Rhamphocottus which is believed not to have been recorded from the western part of the North Pacific. This genus has been placed either in the family Rhamphocottidae or in the large family of Cottidae. The present specimen, though somewhat different from the specimens previously reported upon from the eastern side of the North Pacific or from Alaska, is here tentatively identified as Rhamphocottus richardsoni GÜNTHER. The writer wishes to express here his sincere thanks to Messrs. YAMAMICHI, SOTOKAWA and SATÔ for their cooperation in getting the specimen of an additional species of fish to the Japanese fauna, and to Mr. Yoshiaki TOMINAGA for the trouble of taking a radiograph of the specimen.
