In hemodialysis, components such as anticoagulants and dialyzers that are used in the treatment are different depending on each patient. However, incidents such as the connection of components other than those prescribed by the physician may occur during hemodialysis. Particularly, dialyzer-related events prevent hemodialysis from being conducted properly. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to develop a system for the prevention of dialyzer-related events.
Each type of dialyzer was identified by measuring the length and width of the dialyzer by using a depth sensor and a color sensor with a yellow light-emitting diode (LED). The external temperature of the dialyzer was detected using an infrared temperature sensor and was analyzed according to Mahalanobis distance. As a result, we were able to determine the gas purge, with a temperature of 30.0°C as the threshold. By using a blinking LED, warning sounds, and e-mail in the event of dialyzer-related incidents, our system has been able to ensure the safety of patients during hemodialysis.
