Although magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies offer a significant advantage over computed tomography (CT) regarding radiation exposure, they are not without risks. Our institution has experienced MRI-related projectile incidents, such as the attraction of drug trays, syringe pumps, penlights, and power ankle bracelets, all of which involve physicians besides radiologists. Following an accident in 2024, in which a stretcher brought in by an intern caused severe damage to the MRI machine, we initiated an annual MRI safety training for all interns and hospital staff. Currently, the MRI safety training is not mandatory in Japan, resulting in inconsistent safety protocols across hospitals. The enactment of regulations similar to those governing radioactive isotopes could lead to widespread implementation of MRI safety training across hospitals nationwide, thereby enhancing the quality of medical care.

　We investigated the feasibility of visualizing water dynamics on the rat cerebral surface by direct injection of ¹⁷O-labeled water into the subarachnoid space of the cerebral cortex. We observed its dynamics on the rat cerebral surface, providing potential insights into the glymphatic hypothesis.

　We aimed to measure AQP4 function using the AQP4 inhibitor and transfection to generate HEK-293T cell models of AQP4 inhibition and overexpression. Td-dMRI was performed and differences in water diffusion were detected, suggesting that AQP4 function could be non-invasively suggesting the possibility of non-invasive assessment of AQP4 function.

　A field probe-equipped coil array (NeuroCam) was employed to perform dynamic, higher-order B-field-based distortion correction (DBFdc) during 12-axis DTI of ten healthy volunteers. Results obtained with and without DBFdc were compared in terms of (i) geometric congruence among the 12 axes’ diffusion-weighted images ; (ii) diffusion parameter (FA, MD, AD, RD) means within white-matter ROIs, and (iii) reproducibility of FA, MD, AD and RD means between 2 scans.

　Repetitive mild traumatic brain injury in former professional boxers affects the glymphatic system (GS). Diffusion tensor image analysis along the perivascular space (DTI-ALPS) and enlarged perivascular spaces in the cerebral white matter are recognized as indirect MRI markers of GS function. These MRI indices suggest that former professional boxers experience long-term GS dysfunction, which may be associated with tau deposition in the brain and cognitive impairment.
