Preference of Hazel Grouses
Tetrastes bonasia to herb was examined in captivity from June to October for six species of plants,
Taraxacum officinale, Rumex obtusifolius, Trifolium repens, Phleum pratense, Cryptotaenia japonica and
Plantago asiatica. When given with these plants, Hazel Grouses were observed to feed on them for 6 to 16 minutes and then cased feeding. Of six species of plants examined,
T. officinale, Rumex obtusifolius and
T. repens were considerably preferred, measured in terms of the number of pecking during 16 minutes.
