In May, 1956, the author succeeded in raising a chick of Grey-headed Lapwing,
Microsarcopus cinereus (Blyth). As food the common earthworm was given and after 11-15 days the chick ate 85-120 of it daily.
The weights of the chick taken during 20 days increased from 35 to 120 grams. Newr ecords of food given experimentally are as follows: gecko, goldfish, cockroach, locust, fly, basketworm, earwig, lacewingfly, myriapod, spider, snail etc. The vegetative food was not taken except rape.
Considerations and theories are given on each headings of the text, concerning the detailed behaviour of the growing chick.
