In this monograph, the present writer surveyed the athletic clubs belonging to the student association of the each middle school in Hiroshima prefecture in the Meiji Period, and considered the characteristics of them, having in mind the comparison between these and those of the Higher schools in general. Some of findings are as follows. It is true that there was considerable similarity between those and others; that in both cases, the athletic clubs had the dominant position in the student association they belonged, and both of them, as their major sports, played such same kind of sports as base-ball, rowing, Judo and Kendo. Nevertheless, fundamental differences were there. The clubs of the middle schools were not voluntarily organized by the student themselves, but were organized and sponsored by the school authorities, and that was not the cases in the higher schools. And on the part of the school authorities, they had kept the policy to encourage and promote the athlettic club activi-ties until the early 30's of the Meiji, but after that they abondoned this policy and went to regulate them. Adding to this, a general trend critical to the athletic activities, which was prevalent in the several years at the end of the Meiji Period, subtly influenced the athle-tic club activities in the middle schools also in the Hiroshima prefecture.

The problem of the relation between respiration curve and motion in the other sports has been studied by many researchers, but this type of reasearch reports in "Kendo" have apparently not been published to date. In this section, therefore, the author tried investigate the compsre the relationship of respiration curve and motion between kendoist and non-trainees. The author used the respirator (mask) fitted up with a straingauge to analyze it. And the motions like "Men-Uchi" (frontal attack), "Gokaku-Geiko" (equally matched exercise) and "Kakari-Geiko" (charge exercise) were chosen for analysis. The results were as follows : (1) The non-trainee got "Men" at the top of expiratory phase, but Kendoist could be classified in to two tyyes. One type was 70% that he got "Men" at the expiratory phase and the other type was 30% at the inspiratory phase, the former was observed more than the latter. (2) The Kendoist breathed more lightly and regularly in "Gokaku-Geiko" than the non-trainee. (3) In the respiration of "Kakari-Geiko", the the Kendoist acted with his respiratory pause. And he acted more exactly and quickly than the non-trainee.

The purpose of this study was to classify sports to get data for the guidance of sports and the training of the physical fitness of the junior and senior high school boys. 919 high school boys of the excellent athletic clubs in the kyushu district were selected as the subjects. Their physique and motor ability were measured, and the Yatabe-Guilford Personality Test was given. The conclusions were as follows : 1. The 37 sports could be classified into the many on the basis of the data collected from the subjects. 2. The status and characteristic of each sports could be easily understood from the table of these classification of sports, which is useful for the guidance of sports and the training of physical fitness.

With reference to a fifty (50) meters short-distance running running race by given elementary school-children (three boys and three girls), I put to the test their speed, pitch and average stride per second once a year for six years running at most until the graduation from their primary school with a view to investigating into the correlarion of running capacity with their increasing years and physical growth. As a result, some progress was chearly noticed as follows : Their records proved that they ran faster year after year, especially by two seconds or more in the sixth year in comparidon with four or six years before. Into the auction, I found that their steps per second were increased in number, stride widened accrdingly. I carefully studied the running capacity of three out of the six children in proportin to the duration of the test, namely one for six consecutive years, another for five years and the other for four years respectively. The time required for the sprint was found to be considerably minimised by the first child tested for six years as compared with two other children. Therefore, I have come to the conclusion that the improvement of the record is attributed to school-children's increasing years and physical growth.
