We conducted hypnotherapy to three patients who were suffering from phantom limb pain and to one patient who complained of phantom limb without pain after their amputation. The reason why we used hyponosuggestion was that phantom limb pain and phantom limb seemed to be related to one's body schema and postural model, and that hypnosis itself would easily influence them. The results were as follows : 1) During the hypnotic trance, phantom limb appeared continuously in several forms ranging from that of their present to their childhood.2) In addition, their past ego states were visualized in it, which was accompanied by no pain at the time.3) When little childs limbs appeared in the hypnotic trance, relatively regressive emotions were recognized.4) During the hypnotic trance, most of the phantom limb were recognized as visual images.5) Hypnosis facilitated the therapeutic course and through using hypnotic hallucination and post-hypnotic suggestion, wer were able to reconstruct the body scheme and reintegrate smoothly the prosthesis and the prostural model.6) It was very effective to apply hypnotherapy to the patients suffering from their phantom limb pain and having difficuly in fitting their prosthesis.

The author conducted a research to investigate the relationship between non-specific complaints in females and ovarian functions from the standpoint of gynecological histories and the pattern of basal body temperature. These patients with non-specific complaints were examined at the department of internal medicine. The results were as follows ;1. According to the investigations on gynecological histories in 300 patients whose ages ranged from 16 to 57,the distribution of the patients with non-specific complaints was as follows : climacterium 21.7%, adolescence 15.7%, after-delivery 13.0%, after-artificial abortion 12.0%, after-ovarietomy 5.0%, after-hystrectomy 3.3%, after-ligation of uterine tubes 3.0%, after-abortion 2.7%, after-administration of hormone 2.0%, after-pregnance 1.7%, and others 20% (middle-aged women who showed ovarian insufficiency in the pattern of basal body temperature, although the cause of ovarian insufficiency was not clear). In addition, patients whose complaints were apparently induced by psychogenic causes 78 (26.0%) out of 300 and the complaints of the rest were considered to have been caused were mainly by the change of gonadial environments.2. An abnormal pattern of basal body temperature showing marked luteal insufficiency and non-ovulation phase was observed in 63.6% of adult patients whose complaints were induced by psychogenic causes and in 47.7% of those whose complaints were induced by endocrinic causes.3. As a whole, the frequency of the apperance of non-specific complaints in female patients was considerably higher in the post menstrual stage as compared to the premenstrual stage. Especially, complaints such as stiff shoulder, myalgia, nausea, stomach distress and stomach ache were more frequently observed in the follicular and ovulation phases as compared to the luteal phase and the menstrual period.4. A combination therapy of chlordiazepoxide and vitamin E showed good effects on the decrease of non-specific complaints when compared to a combination therapy of chlordiazepoxide and γ-oryzanol or a single administration of chlordiazepoxide. In addition, a decrease in non-specific complaints was observed along with the improvement of the pattern on basal body temperature after a combination therapy of chlordiazepoxide and vitamin E in some patients with non-specific complaints.

The two different personality tests, the Cornell Medical Index (CMI) and the Yatabe-Guilford test (YG), were performed in 1634 adult urological patients (704 males and 930 females) in order to make psychosomatic observations of the urological disorders. The results were as follows ;(1) The results of total urological patients.1. In CMI of the male patients, 40.9% of the patients were calssified as being in the first area, 32.7% in the second area, 19.3% in the third area and 7.1% in the fourth area, while in the female patients, 34.3% of the patients were classified as being in the first area, 35.4% in the second area, 23.7% in the third area, and 6.6% in the fourth area.2. In YG test of the male patients, 13.8% of the patients were classified as type A, 7.9% as B, 28.0% as C, 41.5% as D and 8.8% as E, while in the female patients, 18.5% of the patients were classified as type A, 8.8% as B, 32.6% as C, 33.3% as D and 6.8% as E.(2) The results of various urological diseases. The patients with impotence, nervous urgency, phimoses, wandering kidney, sexual neuroasthenia and functional difficulty in urination were apt to be diagnosed abnormal, being in the third and the fourth area of CMI and the types B and E of YG test.Different results were obtained in the same group of diseases if the group was divided into small group. For example, the result of patients with acute female cystitis differed from that of patients with chronic female urethrocystitis. It has become clear from this study that a few urological diseases need the psychosomatic approach in making diagnosis and conducting treatment.

It is very difficult to discriminate between the normal and the maladapted body images. The author wish to offer a basic consideration of the clinical body iamge phenomenon by considering normal male adolescents. The author reviewed body image researches and decided to use the body image boundary dimension which was scored by the Rorschach barrier responses. A comparison was made between persons with extremely high barrier scores and those with extremely low ones by conducting detailed case studies of their Rorschach protocols. As a result, it was found that barrier responses appeared along with Rorschach contents which seemed to reflect the patients conflict with authoritative figures. This is called "the phalic narcissistic assertion" in the psychoanalytic context. On the whole, high barrier persons seemed to suffer from a lack of trust in themselves, even though their basic trust in their parents seemed to be well established. In this respect, the author assumed that, in normal male adolescents, the body image boundary would function as a psychological barrier by using a body image, which asserted one's own bodily unity in the conflictual situation where minor self need to fight against the powerful authority in one's fantasy.

A case is a 48-year-old housewife, who has had bronchial asthma for 20 years. Although she visited many hospitals, she had little remissions and finaly visited our clinic. She was diagnosed as broncial asthma, which was caused by her depressed conditions because her life had been filled with hard and pity affairs. She was married to a man who worked in a company at the age of 24. After 1 year, as her husband's sister had a chance to remarry, she and her husband were forced to move out of the house by mother and sister-in-low. This gave her deep sorrow. She couldn't express to anybody and suppressed her anger in her heart. After another year, when she was in the seventh month of pregnance, she had a sudden asthmatic attack. When she was treated by a mother-like-approach, she cried out and began to talk about her troubles for the first time. Subsequently, she was administered antidepressants. Since then, she has been healthy and had no asthmatic attack.
