We carried on resecrch concerning the characteristics of TLD (Mg_2SiO_4 and MgB_4O_7) in radiotherapy. a) It is necessary to use in measuring radiation dose with 15 MSO_s or 10 MBO_s in order to derive standard error of a range less than ±1.0%. b) There is no dependence of fading within 3 hours and no directional dependence of incident radiation. c) Radiation energy dependence is the most remarkable at 30〜4O keV X-ray and its response exhibits 5-6 times. On other hand, there is no energy dependence at high energy radiation such as a cobalt 60 γ-ray. d) MPO is a better than MSO in exposure dose dependence, and MSO has a poor dose dependence over 100R. e) There is no dependence of depth dose rate at both TLD. As we have seen, if we measure TLD in due consideration of statistics, MBO has better characters than MSO in high energy radiation such as a cobalt 60 γ-ray.
Focused collimators for radioisotope scanning must be chosen according to their performance. For this purpose, the performance (spatial resolution, focal distance and sensitivity) of four 3-in. collimators from the Nuclear-Chicago was evaluated with line source response method and geometrical method. Comparison of the performance between the 3-in. Nuclear-Chicago collimators and the 5-in. Toshiba collimators reported previously by us was made.
