A number of noise equivalent quanta (NEQ (u)) has been used in the evaluation of imaging systems. In this paper, we have evaluated the image quality of Fuji computed radiography (FCR) using of NEQ (u) and considered with the effects of the aliasing error of the FCR. The noise samples of the FCR were made by three different exposure levels, and one of these has the same exposure level of the screen-film system. These samples were set with the same characteristic curve condition as that of the screen-film system. Results indicate that NEQ (u) of the FCR system at low frequencies varies depending on the exposure level. On the same exposure level, NEQ (u) of screen-film system has a higher value than that of FCR in the frequency region over 2.5 cycles/mm. Moreover, the aliasing error of FCR increases at the frequency region over 5 cycles/mm. We concluded that it is necessary to compare with the screen-film system in a frequency region under 5 cycles/mm.

Recently, digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is seeing widespread use. Especially, intra arterial DSA (IA-DSA) makes good use of interventional radiology. However, we know that the skin dose for DSA is so much larger than general angiography, and halations often appearing on DSA images. In this report, we show two improvements of DSA. First, the skin dose for DSA is successfully decreased to one-sixth compare with the late DSA of cerebral artery by a reduction in acquisition images. Secondly, we are doing well in suppressing halation by exchanging the control point of automatic exposure control (AEC) from one-half to one-fourth.

We have developed a new radiation planning method for multiple fixed irradiation by using an automatic field setup system using computed simulationgraphy. It is connected on-line with our radiotherapy treatment system so that the treatment field setting is carried out automatically after confirmation. Thus, we can get a consistent system for computed simulationgraphy from treatment planning to actual irradiation.

Shielding effect is discussed for photoneutron leakage from 10 MV linear accelerator. The original shielding in existing treatmentroom was designed without neutrons in mind. The following five additional shielding methods against photoneutrons were used. (1) Opening between the treatmentroom and the maze was narrowed to 49%. (2) Additional shielding door, consisting of 3cm thick borated polyethylene and 5mm thick lead, was installed at the opening. (3) Wall thickness at the opening was increased from 45cm to 80cm. (4) Structure of the shielding door at the entrance of the maze was changed to the same one at the opening. (5) Two shielding chambers which surround the duct for air conditioning, consisting of 3cm thick borated polyethylene and 5mm thick lead, were installed above the opening. A comparison was made between the neutron dose equivalent (DE) calculated by simple manner and the DE measured with neutron rem meter. Under the condition on which we measured, the accuracy of the neutron rem meter which we used in mixed photoneutron with pulsed X-rays was ±32%. We concluded that method (2) and (4) were more effective. The calculated values were in good agreement with the measured ones.
