A theoritical investigation of the image quality evaluation of asymmetric screen-film systems is developed. In connecting with the front and back side image of a film, it is helpful to assess the image quality by keeping in mind that an asymmetric screen-film system involves radiographic density rather than optical illuminance. Therefore, overall MTF depends on radiographic density comprising parallel linkage of each side MTF with relative gradient weight of an asymmetric screen-film system. Slit and chart measurement methods of MTF for asymmetric system are discussed. Consequently, it can successfully be to evaluate the image quality of the simulated asymmetric system by NEQ (u).

A New MTF measurement of the screen-film system by the Fourier analysis using the square wave chart are presented. The accuracy and reproducibility of the measurement were evaluated by computer simulation based on the known MTF data. This method has an advantage that can measure the MTF without the Coltman's formula by computing the Fourier spectrum of the fundamental frequency of the each square wave. It takes 8 minutes to obtain an MTF by using the square chart (Funk, Co. LTD). If we can make a square wave chart which have wide distance from window to window, it be able to measure no truncation error. We can measure high frequency band much more accurately.

Sequential abdominal scintigrams with ^<99m>Tc-labelled red blood cells (RBC) were subtracted for observing a site of gastrointestinal bleeding and calculating the bleeding rate. This method is technically very easy and can detect the site of bleeding with the minimum rate, as low as 0.2ml/min., in a phantom experiment. In 23 cases with final diagnosis of gastrointestinal bleeding, conventional non-subtraction scintigraphy detected only 30% (7/23), but subtraction scintigraphy detected 61% (14/23). It was concluded that subtraction scintigraphy had higher sensitivity than conventional scintigraphy for early diagnosing of bleeding. A combination of nonsubtraction and subtraction scintigraphy is recommended to detect a site of gastrointesitinal bleeding in a clinical setting.
