北海道各地に産する若干の岩石について乾燥状態における動的ヤング率, 静的圧縮ヤング率, ポアソン比その他物理的性質をあきらかにするとともにその測定方法について報告する。実験の結果, 超音波縦波伝播速度V_pから求めた動的ヤング率Edと一軸圧縮試験から求めた静的ヤング率F_Sの間にはかなり相関関係がある。E_d=1.0～3.0E_sの範囲にあり, 概してE_d=1.5～2.OE_sのものが多い。
岩石試験では供試体の表面にワイヤーストレインゲージをはり, ひずみを測定する場合十分な注意がなされなければならない。特に微粒硬質な火成岩系以外の岩石では供試体の応力およびひずみ分布が複雑になり正確な実験値を得るのが困難な場合が多い。これらの場合のひずみは供試体の全体変位を測定しひずみを算出したものの方が信頼性がある。

Nineteen fifty-eight was the year in which heavy investigations on groundwater resources for irrigation began. They have reached 31 in number up to date. The writers will citee three examples of theirs, i. e. a foot of a volcano, a tectonic basin and a limestone table-land.
(1) The eastern foot of Myôkô volcano
The geology consists of such strata as are shown below:
Drillings and pumping tests were carried out to each of three parts. The conclusions are below mentioned:
(A) Groundwater of an aquifer (a) is unconfined; that of (b) is confined.
(B) Aquifers (a) and (b) have a high permeability, while (c) has a low one.
(2) Fukushima tectonic basin
There are so thick quarternary deposits in this basin that their lower limit reaches 150m below the ground level; they are rich in growndwater resources.
Topographically, five plains can be seen-Anyôji, Iizuka, Yanome and Sakino plains and a flood one in descending order. The quarternary system is mainly fluvial deposit, and it looks partly lacustrine one. Various kinds of data show rather slow tectonic sinking and deposition.
According to electric prospectings, four subterranean valleys are presumed; the western deposit is rich in gravel, and the eastern one varies muder near Fukushima city.

(i) 北海道豊富町, 天塩町の沿岸地域の酪農業発展のため, 用水対策に関する調査の概要である。
(ii) 新第三紀鮮新層の更別層は北部より南部においてより発達した帯水層を有する地層であり, 下部帯水層中の水質は表流水と同程度に良好なものである。
(iii) 更別層をその水質及び岩質上から深度50m附近において上下2層に区分した。
