There are various opinions, theories or hypotheses on the relations between carbohydrates and nitrogen contained in plant to its behaviours. In order to know whether there is any more general and adequate fact or not we postulated“Active C, N”designated as“
C, N”meaning the carbohydrate and the nitrogen, without any faults, which are necessary and sufficient for the contructive materials of the plant's growth in question, and the sources of its energy.
Then we formulized an ideal functional equation“
W=K_??_
C+
N_??_
m_??_
C/
N_??_
n”between the amount of plant's growth and
C, N, limiting some conditions from the special point of view.
For the purpose of applying it to the practice, we derived a following formula“W=k_??_C+N±u_??_
m_??_C/N±v_??_
n±w”, u, v and w are corrective ter ms respectively.
In the above formula we can consider 8-cases according as whether u, v, and w are jointly or separately zero or not.
We applied one of then “W=k_??_C+N_??_
m_??_C/N_??_
n” which is the most analogous one to the ideal case, on the certain conditions, to some experimental results, acquired in 1934 with other aim, in regard to the eggplant “Sinkuro”. In this case, fresh weights were used as W, total carbohydrates as C, and total nitrogen as N, though it is not necessary to be fixed as they stand, in abosolute amount per one with gram unit.
We found fairly accurate coincidences between observed values of their fresh weights and calculated values of them.
